TW/21/2380 | Tree Works in a Conservation Area

Pitt Cottage Cromer Road Thorpe Market Norfolk NR11 8TU

We wish to fell a Leylandii, approx height 25ft, approx spread 20 feet, shown in black on sketch. It is growing very close to and shading out established hazel trees and some fruit trees planted within the last 5 years. The lowest branches are less than 1 foot from the ground, preventing vegetation and providing dense cover for rats. There is no wildlife value, unless you count the rats. There are 40 other trees on the site, mostly established native deciduous species including oak; horse chestnut; lime; hazel; sycamore; ash; rowan; willow. We have also planted a range of fruit trees including apple, cherry, plum and walnut. The plot is on the other side of the A149 from our house. The sketch shows the approx 0.5 acre section in which the tree is growing. The remaining 0.2 acres consists of a parking area, shed and vegetable garden. There are no trees in this area. We will replace the felled tree with an appropriate native tree of higher wildlife value e.g. a rowan.
