Engineering works to improve the drainage and soil structure of a parcel of arable land incorporating formation of drainage ditches, replacement of failed land drainage and creation of attenuation basin. Why necessary for agriculture: Much of the land puddles and is boggy for several months of the year. By rectifying soil conditions, replacing the old damaged land drainage and perimeter ditches previously installed in the 1960s with an updated system at the correct depths it will increase the productivity, efficiency and sustainability of the unit. The results will see an increase of around 120 tons of grass silage per year. Why designed for agriculture: The development has been designed to allow the land to be ploughed and cultivated at the correct depths, improving crop yields and enabling a more and varied and sustainable winter crop rotation to be adopted.
