Statement of Work: T1 Sycamore - To carefully section fell as close to ground level as possible and to poison stump with appropriate use of herbicide (eco plugs) to prevent regrowth. Medium tree in the front garden growing close to the house with much potential for future growth and therefore damage. Cracks and movement of the retaining wall adjacent to the basement windows already in evidence.

Mature oak TPO 340 - pruning / trimming works by upto 1m to offer clearance from house windows and street light.

T2. Yew -reduce to clear phone line by 0.5m-1m, reduce back to clear side of house only by 1 metre, remove ivy at base. T4. Black Pine - remove sections of dead ivy and major dead wood. T8. Plum - (multi-stemmed and dying) - fell to low stumps at 0.5m T12. Holly - fell (previously maintained as a screen to front windows, now overhanging low wall and partially blocking public footpath. T1 London Plane - Remove deadwood and diseased branches. Reduce branch facing south east in mid crown by approx 3m to previous pruning points. T1 - Purple Maple (Front of House) - Fell. Tree is very large and too close to house (High Gables). Tree roots are undermining existing driveway. The size and position restricts light to front windows of house. 2. T3 - Willow (Rear of House) - Fell. This tree is too close to existing weeping willow tree (T4). Trees are very close together so we would like to remove the smaller willow to encourage the growth of T4.

The Sycamore tree, shown as T1 on the attached site plan, was the subject of a previous application in 2013 to reduce the crown because of fears that the tree was in close proximity of the Old Mill, a grade 2 listed building and could damage the building fabric. The tree sits on the bank of a raised former mill dam and has a large number of exposed roots. A full arboriculturist and engineering report was provided to support this application. At the time, the view of the Heritage officer, Julia Foster, was to remove the tree if it presented any further risk to the building. We were reluctant to remove the tree and chose to follow the pollarding route. This was approved and works subsequently undertaken by Pat Kernan, tree surgeon. Recent history The tree, being located on the bank of the millstream, has grown considerably in size. The roots are exposed and the recent high winds showed the tree moving significantly in the wind. It is not beyond bounds that then tree could be ripped up at its roots and topple on the listed building or neighbours buildings at Paradise House. It now presents an even greater risk to the listed building, as shown below. On Monday the 29th of June 2021 at approximately 3 pm in the afternoon, major damage resulted from a large branch blown down from a protected sycamore tree on the western boundary of the property which struck the south-west corner of the building, damaging the roof, dislodging the top of a dormer window, tearing off the gutters and their brackets and knocking down a twin wall stove flue attached to the building. Damage has been done to the brickwork where the flue brackets were ripped off. This resulted in over ??8,000 worth of damage We now wish to either remove the tree or significantly reduce the height of the tree to say four metres.

G1- Layland Cypress - reduce by 50% T1 - Cedar kill ivy through banding T2 - Cedar removed ivy from tree & remove deadwood and fractures T3 - Oak tree growing on steep bank under mature trees, remove to ground, open up view. T4 - Wellingtonia kill ivy through banding T5 to T7 - Cypress reduce height to top of upstairs windows T8 - Cypress on right of drive, closest to house, remove to ground.

T1 - Poplar - 22m high/11m wide - To reduce the crown height by up to 10m to reduce the lever arm effect on the upper crown and to create a smaller crown to allow light into neighbours rear garden. T2 - Conifer - 12m high - To reduce height down by 6m to retain screening effect from village hall. T3 - Beech - 4m high - To reduce and reshape back to original form, currently lapsed with 1.5m-2.0m extension growth from topiary form. T4 and T5 - Beech - 12m high/5m wide - To thin crowns by up to 15% to allow light to filter through crowns into building and to sympathetically reduce offending branches back from windows and the side of the house to achieve a 3.5m clearance. Branches are currently very close to the building.

Magnolia T5. DESCRIPTION OF WORKS: (a) removal of rear stem down to 1.5m above ground level. (b) reduction of crown by approximately 30% (from 9m down to 6.5m). REASONS FOR WORK: (1) The removal of the rear stem closest to the house will make space for easier and safer access to windows, roof, gutters, fascia, and soffits. (2) By removing branches overhanging the roof, we will allow more light to reach the roof, which will deter the regrowth of moss once it has been removed and treated. (3) By reducing the crown by 30% we will reduce the degree to which the view of the house is dominated by the tree and manage the spread of its influence on the house above and below ground.
