23/00565/TR | Lop, Top or Fell Trees Subject to a TPO

Ripley 12 Yew Tree Lane Wolverhampton West Midlands WV6 8UF

23/00006/TPO (T1) My client is wishing to extend his current gravel driveway in line with sketch plans provided using heavy duty weed control membrane and covering off 20mm golden flint gravel to the whole area, this would be into the RPA of the adjacent T1 oak tree which measures for tree of 97cm diameter at 1.5m (0.97 x 12) = 11.6m radius, the measurements for driveway are 7.4 metres away from the front door in line with golden shrubbery border as per photos and from corner stone off current driveway to front garage door 6.25 metres away in a curve, driveway would be dug down by hand under arb supervision and dug down to remove top soil to a maximium depth off 300mm, any roots exposed larger than 25mm would be covered by the membrane and then by 20mm golden gravel to match previous driveway as per photos smaller roots would be pruned under guidance if required.

Proposed removal of 2 trees close to our rear patio doors - 1 x Yew and 1 x Holly. The size of the trees have got a little out of control, with large amounts of debris / fallen leaves now falling on our living area. The trees grow inbetween 2 original large mature Scots Pine trees, which will not be touched. In addition to this, we have a large mature oak tree in a corner boundary, that while growing towards the light, is also growing predominantly over our garage/extension roof. We would like to ask for permission for a tree surgeon to take some of the weight out of the extremities of this tree, in addition to some heavy branches that are growing over our neighbour's boundary into No 9 Ferniehurst. Please find pictures and plan attached.

Oak tree (T1) - when we moved here in 1991, this tree had been damaged, probably in the 1987 storm. The main trunk had broken and there was some growth from the side. There is now a large hole in the main trunk where it had been damaged and the branch that has now grown out is at risk of falling. See attached photograph named T1 with hole. AS you can see from the photograph, there is also a hole further down the trunk. We want to fell this tree. As there are other trees and shrubs adjacent to this tree, there is no space for a replacement tree. Sweet chestnut tree (T2) and beech tree (T3) - the branches of these two trees now extend over our garage close to the roof leading to the garage roof becoming covered in a thick layer of moss. There is also a risk of squirrels getting on to the roof from the overhanging branches. To prevent damage to the roof, we would like the lower branches of these two trees removed to provide 3 metres clearance between the branches and the garage roof. Oak tree (T4) - we would like to remove a large branch of this oak tree as it now extends over our apple and plum trees and garden leading to those trees not get enough light and restricted light in our greenhouse. The branch we want to remove is shown in the photograph named T4 with branch to be removed.

The proposal is to extend the rear of the property with a single storey extension extruding 2m from the existing building line, across the width of the property. The single storey extension is proposed to be 2m in depth and spanning the width of the northern elevation, excluding the garage area. To allow this development to proceed, there will not be a requirement to remove any trees. The project is to be built under the Certificate of Lawfulness (Permitted development) and the supporting report is to demonstrate how this can be achieved whilst maintaining the tree root system and minimizing the impact during construction.

T1 Beech - 2 metre overall crown reduction up to a max cut size of 25mm. (TPO 11, 1978) I refer to the previous application 21/00457/TRE and decision dated 31/03/2021. This is a revised application as discussed with Robert Goode, Tree Officer (03/09/2021). The trunk is 17ft from garage and 23ft from the house. Excessive shading from the canopy which is overhanging the glass lantern of Orangery extension. Large tree roots were found in rain water 'down pipes' and drainage during the Orangery building works requiring the drains to be rerouted (see photos). Significant root upheaval affecting garden and distortion of concrete fence posts (rear of property). Garden upheaval - horizontal at 7 inches (see photos). Concrete fence post significantly off vertical (see photos). Excessive fall of beech nuts. Ivy will be removed from trunk as recommended by Robert Goode.

T1 - Yew - fell because of obstruction to vehicles entering and exiting the Applicant's property and due to establishment of new driveway. T2 - Red Horsechestnut - reduce crown by 3 metres due to excessive shading and reduce weight from crown. T3 - London Plain - crown lift by 5 metres and cut overhanging branches back by 3 metres due to close proximity to house and garage. G1 - Group consisting of 1 Beech, 2 Horse Chestnuts and 2 Limes in neighbouring garden - Crown lift to 5 metres on Applicant's side only and cut back over extended limbs on Applicant's side only by 3 metres to improve light into Applicant's garden and new flowerbed. G2 - Group consisting of 4 Willows on river bank - repollard to previous growth points. G3 - Group consisting of 3 Sycamores - Crown lift by 5 metres. T4 - Conifer - remove small skinny conifer next to large conifer due to lack of space to grow for larger conifer. T5 - Ash - fell to ground level as half of the tree is dead. T6 - Maple - crown lift by 5 metres. T7 - Magnolia - fell to ground level due to close proximity to Applicant's new extension and patio.
