Notice of intent to carry out works to trees in a Conservation Area - 1) ginkgo tree (tree number 1 on sketch plan)- looking to 'crown reduction' of c.6m (reducing the height of the tree by less than c.15%) & a 'crown thinning' c10-15%. Work to be completed by a professional tree surgeon. Reasons for the work- tree is over large & proved to be dangerous in the recent storms shedding a number of large branches. Leans over towards our neighbours who have complained & asked us to have it reduced in size. 2) yew tree (tree number 2 on the sketch plan)- looking to be felled. Work to be completed by a professional tree surgeon. Reasons for the work- the yew trees are poisonous & especially the fact that the berries are deadly, with a child under 2 years old it is not a risk that we are comfortable taking. We also have a puppy who could also eat the berries & die. Obviously, we would never leave our child unattended in the garden, but like most little ones everything goes in her mouth & it is far too dangerous keeping the tree. In addition to this the tree roots are causing damage to the adjacent path making it unsafe & the proximity to our garage has meant that finding building insurance much harder & more expensive. The trees positioning also means that it obstructs most of the afternoon light from a large part of the garden.
