The proposed works are to fell at ground level and treat the stump to prevent regrowth of the weeping willow tree at 30 Westbury Rd. The reason for the works is due to subsidence damage at 28 Westbury Rd and the tree being implicated in causing this damage. Alternatives to tree removal have been considered and thought impractical or ineffective. The reasonably foreseeable loss arising if removal of the tree is not allowed has been estimated as 340,000+VAT based on a building footprint of 150 sq m. made up of 50k pre-piling, 140k design and build piled raft, 100k post piling (internal rebuilding, bathroom, kitchen and conservatory etc and 50k alternative accommodation whilst the works are undertaken. If the tree is removed then the repair costs are estimated to be a total of 85,000 + VAT consisting of External and internal superstructure repairs and redecoration 40k, internal floor works 40K, alternative accommodation 5k The difference between these two sums is an estimate of foreseeable compensation claim if tree removal is not allowed.

Various trees ( Ash, limes, yews, chestnut) ( red lines on map) to be crown lifted to 6m to allow accommodation to be installed. 2 ash trees to be removed. 1 due to lean and will obstruct hi-ab lorry needed to install cabins. I have spoke to James Remmington on the phone regarding the works. The company that are on the site have been given a deadline of 1/10/22 to move the cabins. Ground works need to start on the 19/9/22. We need the tree work to be completed by then. I apologise about the timeframes, I was only made aware of this at the start of the week. I would recommend that I meet somebody on site to discuss.

We are submitting a five day notice of our intent to complete the following work to 1 x large twin Stemmed Ash (see location plan and photographs). We have submitted on line as advised by Neil Pasmore (Parks and Planning Tree Officer). This tree is leaning over the river and is within striking of the accommodation block - Hailsham House. One of the major stems failed in the recent storm and is hung up in the adjacent trees and split out completely at the base which has revealed extensive basal decay caused by the pathogen infection of inonotus hispidus. The remaining large stem hangs over the river and is in falling distance of the University accommodation building. We propose to remove the remaining stem to mitigate the risk of it collapsing onto the adjacent accommodation block. Matthew Cross (Head of Estates) can be contacted for access by email or on (0)1280 820354.
