The Tower View Cottage Church Lane Chearsley Buckinghamshire HP18 0DF

There are 7 trees affected by this application, all are Silver Birch, and the location is shown on the attached sketch, X1 to X7. They were included in TPO 29 1996 and were part of a group designated G3 in Planning Application 20/01790/APP in 2020 for what eventually became Tower View Cottage. These trees are approximately 65 years old (as advised by local residents who knew of the planting), but their growth has been suppressed for the majority of their life as they were shaded by other neighbouring trees in close proximity. At this age, even in good health, the remaining life is expected to be less than 10 years to failure or death, however they are all in the last stages of their decline and this time is likely to be considerably less than 10 years. They all have very thin crowns, and are sparsely leafed. Specifically there is considerable concern regarding the safety in the garden, and the proximity to the house and boundaries. Specifically :- X1 is dying, has significant dead wood in the crown and is leaning toward the eastern boundary. X2 is dying, has two major cavities at about 3m and is a potential danger to the house given the age and condition of the tree. X3, X4, X5 & X6 are all tall with very thin crowns, with minimal growth only at high level and are in decline. X7 has dead limbs at the crown and is dangerously close to the neighbouring house, Midcourts. This request is that due to the condition and age of the trees that they be felled and the stumps ground out. It is disappointing to have to request the felling of these trees, but given the circumstances it is considered essential. Therefore we would propose to plant 4-5 new trees around the garden, the species to be discussed with the Buckinghamshire Authority

The tree is an aspen, labelled T1 . This tree is around 20m high and has a public footpath and livery stables to one side and a house to the rear, as shown in the attached plan "aspen position". This tree has lost a number of large branches in very windy and stormy weather (as can be seen from the attached photos) and has caused damage to the property behind as well as a period where a branch overhung the stables until we could get someone to deal with it. The branches were found to be diseased explaing why they fell. In summer, when the tree is in full leaf, the branches become very heavy leading to the potential for danger to anyone underneath. It is also unbalanced as a result of the breakage but new growth can be seen below the proposed cutting line (aspen proposed cutting line.jpg). We have contacted the two neighbours most affected by the threat from the tree and they support this. The proposal is to reduce the height by around 40%, encouraging further growth much lower down and reducing the risk of danger to people and property in the area.

At client re request: T1 Lime Remove epicormic growth from main stem. Crown thin by 20% removing only small diameter regrowth from main scaffold branches in crown. <25mm. Remove low branch on east side of tree at 6.5m. Remove hanging branches. Client wishes to conduct regular maintenance to the Lime, the branch removal is requested as client is concerned it is getting a little close to the house (this has previously caused problems with squirrels in accessing the loft. It also is reported to block an undue amount of light from a particular part of the garden

Fell Lime Tree. Lime tree is subject of TPO 1991 No.45. Reasons are * Safety. A large section fell in front garden and nearly hit resident. Neighbours in adjacent property have expressed concerns of falling branches onto their path that connects front to rear of house and potential threat to their children. Sizeable fallen branches potential threat to parked cars. Note no independent report provided because the tree itself is not apparently diseased. Pictures provided in pdf showing examples of fallen branches posing safety threats * Low amenity value. Conditions generally implying high amenity value no longer present. All residents of Braddens Furlong support removal. No feedback following removal of large ash tree at same location * Other general downsides of having large tree in relatively small garden, including potential health threat from bird droppings, reduction of light into house, impact of cleaning up debris and leaves on residents who are both retirement age Two mitigation options proposed. Either 1. Applicants will fund the planting of two trees of the Council's choice in locations designated by the Council, Or 2. Applicants will plant a new tree near the site of the lime but the new tree will be significantly thinner (for example carpinus betulus 'Frans Fontaine' or a smaller ornamental tree), thereby removing most of the problems presented by the lime and will also fund the planting of one new tree of the Council's choice in a location designated by the Council

10 Pitters Piece Long Crendon Buckinghamshire HP18 9PP

T1 Ash tree Fell tree is located in the rear garden its had a few large branches snap out which has caused damaged. Tree is also overbearing for the size of garden. Reduction is an option but with a tree this size and age it wont make a huge difference. Due to safety concerns from the homeowners felling the tree is more practical. Trees around this have had health issues in the past so hopefully this is something to consider. T2 Ash tree Reduction this tree is located over the summer house. Has been reduced along time ago, also another big tree which takes up a lot of space. A reduction of 30/40% roughly 3.5 to 5.5 meters in places will make a huge difference and still leaves the tree looking like a tree.
