One mature pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) is located within the back garden of 79a Dyke Road. This tree has a DBH of 52 and a height of circa 13.5m. Gandoderma applanatum brackets are apparent on the stem of the tree and Collybia Fusipes (Spindle Shank) has been noted at the base of the tree following the rootplates. Both of these fugal infections are known to cause mechanical failure. Due to the proximity of residential properties 79a Dyke Road, 79 Dyke Road and commercial properties Brighton Dental Centre, New tattoo studio and the apparent fungal decay on the tree, it is proposed that the oak tree is monolithed to a height of 5m. This will remove the sail of the crown and reduce the risk of future failure during heavy winds with resultant damage to property. All epicormic growth will also be removed from the stem and the remnant monolith will allow for some ecological and aesthetical benefits to remain.

Rear garden T1 - Eucalyptus Fell to ground level Reason: The entire crown of the tree is dead and leaning heavily towards neighbouring residential property

T18 - Horse Chestnut - Cut back scaffold branch at a height of approx. 4m to the south by half of its existing length leaving the branch approx. 4.5m in length. To reduce the weight of the branch that is over residential dwelling. Tree surgeon suspects branch union to be included.

We have five mature trees in our rear garden that need attention. They are four sycamore trees and one coniifer. Two of these trees have TPO's. The two sycamore trees with TPO's (T88 and T87) include one purple sycamore. I want to reduce the height of all of them by 1-2 metres and 'cone' them in shape. They are mature and are currently about 16-18 metres in height. They overhang the drive entrance to Rottingdeam playground and need to be kept safe as the drive is used constantly by cars, council vehicles and pedestrians. Some branches reach over the gardens of an adjacent residential drive - the Rotyngs.

Reason: To mitigate excessive shade to rear of property and surrounding residential gardens.

T1 is a willow overhanging a residential car parking area. It has been reported that several branches have fallen out recently, and on inspection, there is evidence of dead, decayed and broken stumps. Necrotic bark continues down the stem to approximately 4-5m above ground level, whereupon a cavity and corresponding reactive wound wood is being laid down. The suggested works, namely a heavy reduction, to remove the necrosis and soft decay, will alleviate the potential for further failure, while leaving the cavity with very little weight upon it, as natural habitat. Field maple, hawthorn + cherry (0004) - From corner of woodland by residential gardens to 50mph sign at roundabout, crown lift roadside only trees to 2.5m and cut back all woody vegetation 0.5m back from footpath edge. Sycamore (0003) - Over-mature sycamore with cavity in lower stem and fire damage, remove all deadwood from above path. Ash (0002) - Group of 2 multiple stemmed ash, both with dieback disease and tagged tree has Inonotus hispidus. Fell both trees at waist height, stack timber and brash neatly into habitat piles within woodland well away from path. Cherry (1500) - Group of trees around lamp column 34, prune 2m clearance to lamp head and column. Cherry (0001) - Group of trees around lamp column 33 prune 2m clearance to lamp head and column.

Variation of Conditions 1 and 13 of BH2018/03541 (Erection of 2no seven storey buildings and 4no six storey buildings (including lift overruns) to provide 242no residential dwellings (C3), 162 car parking spaces, 365 cycle parking spaces, new access from Coldean Lane; associated landscaping incorporating areas of play/amenity space/active learning and substations.) to allow alterations to access, elevations and landscaping, the arboricultural impact assessment and tree protection plans and the updating of outstanding pre-commencement conditions.

Mature Sycamore trees T12, 13, 14. Approx. 16m tall - remove cut back height by up to 3m to leave trees at 13m. Cut back branches on east side only by up to 4m to old pollard, pruning points, no further than 1.5m east of residential boundary wall.
