The tree in question is the southernmost of the two Copper Beech forming 'G7' from TPO 25/02/SC. It is referenced as 'T001' on the attached drawing 9704. The specimen has been under the supervision of Hayden's Arboricultural Consultants since a rapid decline in the physiological health of the tree was observed in spring 2022. A photo of the tree was captured in August 2022 (attached) which shows the crown with an approx. 50% sparsity/dieback. Since then, the specimen has continued its rapid decline and as now on the cusp of being dead, and very unlikely to come into leaf next year. The cause of the death of the tree is suspected Beech Bark Disease. Cracks in the buttressing and lower stem were noted in August 2022, which resemble those caused by this disease, though no orange/rust fungal growths were observed at the time. The approved construction works allied to this site had not started by August 2022, so it can be confidently stated that the decline of the tree is not related to recent activity around the tree. A replacement Copper Beech tree will be planted in the location shown on drawing 9704.

Please note: species listed within TPO 03/1989 do not fully align with the trees currently growing along Clarendon Road. It is unclear if T4 and T5 are covered by the TPO given that the data is out of date and does not reflect what is present. Silver birch T2 (T005 on sketch plan) fell to ground level to construct a temporary layby for construction purposes. Replace with 1xZelkova serrata heavy standard Sycamore T4 (actually a Hornbeam) (T004 on sketch plan) fell to ground level to construct a temporary layby for construction purposes. Replace with 1xKoelreuteria paniculata heavy standard Sycamore T5 (actually a Wild Cherry) (T003 on sketch plan) fell to ground level to construct a temporary layby for construction purposes. Replace with 1xParrotia persica heavy standard Apple T6 (T002 on sketch plan) fell to ground level to construct a temporary layby for construction purposes. Replace with 1xAlnus imperialis heavy standard and 1x Magnolia grandiflora Mixed species hedge (H001 on sketch plan) fell to ground level

Hornbeam (T006) - fell because of multiple tight unions and poorly healed wounds throughout the crown as commented on by Trees Officer Joanna Davies and dieback in the southern portion of the crown. There is potential for the tight unions to break apart over the existing site access, adjacent public footpath or neighbouring driveway. Replant with one standard non-fastigiate hornbeam in the same position during the planting season following completion of construction at the Lockton House site.

Acer saccharinum (Silver Maple) The tree has significant die-back (80% dead) and mistletoe within the crown. Construction of the new building will have unavoidably damaged some roots. Remove to just above ground level. Possible replacement trees: 1 Acer platanoides 'Columnare' (Norway Maple) or 2 Liriodendron tulipifera 'Aureomarginatum' (Variegated Tulip Tree)
