In the 2 years since pruning re-growth has been rapid from the main trunk. These hang over into 86 Station Road, significantly reducing sunlight reaching the established fruit and vegetable beds in 86 Station Road reducing productivity. The branches will soon be over/touching/leaning onto the roof of the potting shed in 86 Station Road and could damage the roof. This application is for annual (or bi-annual depending on the rate of growth) removal of re-growth (to the boundary) coming from the main trunk up to a height of approx 10 feet from ground level

21/01486/TRE | Work to tree within Conservation area

3 Engine Yard Ely Cambridgeshire CB6 3BF

T1 Sycamore - Fell in sections to ground level and treat stump. The tree is situated approximately 3m from the rear corner of number 38 St Johns Rd and low branches are touching or within less than 200mm of the wall, roof, and gutters. Buttress roots are damaging the fence. The biggest problem with the tree is the likelihood of it failing at the low union, known as an included bark union. When several trunks form close to the base, they affect one another's habit. They compete for light and space and end up leaning away from the vertical. Their branches form on the outside of the canopy making the weight bias even worse. Eventually one or more stems usually break away at the union and fall. The tree is left with a huge wound at the base and very often fungal spores colonise. This will usually result in decay and renders the remainder of the tree unsafe. In the case of this particular Sycamore there is no direction that the first failing stem could fall and not cause damage to property or injury to the public. As previously mentioned, it stands a mere 3m from the closest house.
