The water stored will be pumped from the IDB pump draining the marshes whcih would otherwise be pumped to waste in the North Sea. Why necessary for agriculture: At present vegetable production on the hihgher light land on the farm is limited by the availability of irrigation water. This development is part of a project to use the water pumped to waste by the Internal Drainage Board in a number of reservoirs in this area which will allow a larger area of irrigated cropping, primarily potatoes, carrots and onions.
