Non-material amendment to planning permission ref: 2019/03265/FR3 granted 13th May 2022 for the 'Construction of a community garden within Frank Banfield Park, including construction of new part habitat wall boundary to Millie's Nursery, installation of a community store, shelter and accessible toilet, construction of new hard landscape footpaths to connect to existing park path network, installation of new site boundary fencing, internal site fencing, associated hard and soft landscaping.' Amendments to include: Community Garden Building 'Minor adjustment to container building footprint, to two standard containers, including accessible toilet within one of the containers, amendments to the external elevations including door and shutter window positions; Tiny Forest 'Change of native boundary planting to an Earthwatch 'Tiny Forest' specification with native tree planting; Earthworks 'Extended soil capping to area of imported topsoil capping extended to include the Tiny Forest area.

Group G1 - this is a large group of trees running along the foreshore of the club on the riverside. It is predominantly populated by tall, single stem poplars and willows. The roots are relatively shallow and have a lot of decay present as they constantly under water and are rooted into soft mud. There were numerous trees blown over in the recent storm, some which were resting on the retaining fence leading on to the river. There are also various deciduous trees such as sycamores and maples at the top of the bank that have grown too large for their location. We would like to reduce the poplars and willows down to 6-8 meters in height to alleviate the weight and mechanical loading on the stems and root system. This will also prevent them falling onto the perimeter fence and causing it to fail. Some of them have been reduced in the past and will just be reduced back to previous points. The various other trees on the foreshaw need to be reduced in height to circa 12 meters to maintain a suitable size for their location. There are also various trees that are growing out of the retaining wall towards the river, these will be removed. The club have recently commissioned a survey from a specialist firm to determine the integrity of the retaining wall running along the clubs river boundary to assess the effectiveness of the flood defence. The report has found numerous weaknesses in the wall due to self-sown trees and vegetation which all needs to be removed before structural strengthening is undertaken. The idea is to retain the trees to maintain screening from the flats and warehouses on the opposite side of the river.

Works to trees subject to Tree Preservation Order TPO/300/9/01; T1 - Holm Oak (Quercus ilex) by carry out a full crown reduction to previous pruning points; T2 - Holly trim to shape, balance and tidy; T4 - Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) fell to ground level due to evidence of heartwood decay; T5 - Holm Oak (Quercus ilex) to reduce entire crown to previous reduction points and cut back all overhanging branches to boundary fence line; T6 - Sycamore (Pseudoplatanus) to reduce entire crown to previous reduction points and to lift where necessary to 4m above ground level; T7 - Sycamore Tree (Pseudoplatanus) to reduce entire crown to previous reduction points and to lift where necessary to 4m above ground level.

T1 Rear garden - Cherry x 1 (Prunus spp) - Outgrown location, blocking light from property and garden - Reduce in height 1m past previous reduction points approx 3m total to suitable growth points; Reduce laterally by up to 2m to shape T2 Rear garden - Elder x 1 (Sambucus nigra) - Self-seeded tree outgrown location- Reduce all round by approx. 2m as directed by client T3 Rear boundary - Ivy Common x 1 (Hedera helix) - Reduce/trim to the height of fence; Trim face to contain T4 - Neighbouring garden no. 26 - Cypress x 1 - Reduce back towards boundary 1-2m retaining greenery to improve light

T1 - Mulberry - Rear - Reduce all aspects of the crown by approx. 2.5m. Retain as much furnishing growth as possible to facilitate a healthy recovery. T2 - Horse Chestnut - Rear - Thin crown by approx. 15-20% to allow more light to reach the far end of the garden. Reduce all aspects of the crown by approx. 2.5 metres. Reduce the large low limb that overhangs several neighbouring gardens by approx. 3 - 3.5 metres. Remove all dead, dying and diseased branches. Retain low foliage as a green screen from neighbouring properties. - T3 - Pink Horse Chestnut - Rear - Remove dead, dying and diseased branches. Reduce climbing ivy to the height of the rear fence. Reduce long overextended limbs by approx. 2.5 - 3 metres back towards the boundary line. Carry out an aerial tree inspection.
