The proposal comprises the demolition of the former air raid shelter which adjoins the west elevation of the 'middle' school building. The infant outdoor play area is significantly undersized and the additional space from the removal of the former air raid shelter will generate much needed improvements. The air raid shelter is not fit for purpose having no natural light and ventilation. Furthermore, the shelter has fallen into a poor state of disrepair with defective brickwork and significant corrosion to the roof steel members supporting the roof slab. Additionally, a reconfigured bin store arrangement will occupy the previous bin store area (see drawings PL01 & PL02).

New & replacement timber frame shelters to side elevation. Shelter to existing beer garden to be glazed roof. New shelters towards rear of the premises to be zinc roof, with 1100mm high glass balustrade to perimeter.
