T18 Horse Chestnut - Selective reduction of T18. Reduce storm damaged branches and those containing significant cavities by 10% of branch length. Reduce crown height by 15 % whilst retaining all lower internal growth. Reduction cuts to be made back to a suitable side branch that maintains a flowing branch line and character of the tree. This will allow the tree and habitats to be retained and will reduce wind loading on the trunk whilst not overly exposing the adjacent trees to significant increased wind loading. This will allow the tree to be retained in the short term and provide a safe, phased, decline pathway.

Recommendations following Tree assessment: Deodar Cedar: Selective crown and branch reduction. Crown - small reduction of selective branches as shown by red dots on Pic 1. South side - cut back low primary scaffold branch by 2.5m to strong green secondary growth to reduce weight on this extended limb as per red dots on Pic2. North/West - reduce extended branches by nor more than 1.6m to clear lamp posts as per red marks on Pic4. East - prune back extended growth over drive by nore more than 1m to strong green suitable secondary growth, all an an on-going maintenance and care programme. The tree shows signs of normal vitality with no visible or notable dysfunction. The work is being undertaken to balance the tree, and to reduce nuisance from falling branches and bird droppings over public footpaths and private driveways.

Deodar Cedar (Cedrus Deodara): The tree is situated on an elevated triangle of land adjacent to and belonging to 16 Riverside but surrounded on all three sides by public footpaths. Permission is sought to reduce the primary southern scaffold limb overhanging neighbours' property by 3.5m, the eastern extension by 1.5m, the north-east by 1.5m, cutting back to strong green secondary growth. The tree is mature but vigorous, and has grown further since work was undertaken in early 2021 to lighten the canpoy by removing dead and diseased wood down to 20mm in diameter. The tree is unbalanced with much greater spread to the south, where it drastically overhangs the neighbouring property, 18 Riverside, and to the east than other sides. I estimate the spread now to be 15.5m south, 12m east, 11m west, 11.5m north-east. Planning permission granted (21/0027/TPO) on 4 March 2021 also allowed the reduction of the primary southern scaffold limb by 2m, but this was not carried out.

The tree that we would like to carry work out on is the Magnolia Tree identified on the attached plan as T2 and also noted as T2 in the Tewkesbury Council Tree Preservation Order No. 313 Reduce branch back to an appropriate point as it is damaging gate and touching glass on the kitchchen window which may break. See photographs accompanying the application which explains the issues and proposed works.
