6/00214/TPO Horse chestnut x 2, lime x 1 and elm overhanging boundary to be pruned back. Fell elm overhanging road.

The 4 trees are in the grounds of Bromford Dale, Albert Road, Wolverhampton, WV6 0BA and are adjacent to the boundary with my property at 12 Avondale Road. The trees are limes and create excessive shading of my garden if not regularly maintained. In 2018 I obtained permission from the owners of Bromford Dale, Bromford Homes, to carry out some work to reduce the shading created by the trees if I obtained permission from the local authority as the trees are protected by TPOs. I duly applied to the Planning Dept. of Wolverhampton City Council and was granted permission to lift the crowns to 6m and remove epicormic growth. I appointed an approved tree surgeon (Nick Sims, Tettenhall Tree Surgery) to carry out the work. Because the lime trees produce profuse epicormic growth, this needs to be removed every couple of years to reduce the shading it creates. I contacted the planning dept. again in 2020 to allow the removal of new epicormic growth below the crown. This was permitted on the basis that the previous permit had not expired. I am now reapplying for permission for the tree surgeon to again remove the new epicormic growth below the crown from the 4 trees.

T1 - Fell - Western Red Cedar - Reasons: Large tree on front garden boundary with neighbouring property. The tree has previously had a large side stem removed, possibly due to storm damage, there are other historic wounds on the trunk. The roots are causing severe cracking of the tarmac driveway and have broken through the surface in several locations. The property owner also pointed out cracking on the wall and floor of the porch. The Marble front doorstep is cracked and there is seasonal movement in the doorframe. During summer they were unable to open the front door and the step crack opened up, in winter the crack shrank back and the door was freed. This indicates a possible subsidence issue, which will be exacerbated by the water uptake from a large tree within the influencing distance of the house. The expected influencing distance for a mature tree of this species is 20m, the tree is located 6.5m from the property and area of damage.

06/00105/TPO (W6) - Various works to Trees T26 - T35, G36 and G38 as described in submitted tree survey. N.B. remaining trees identified in tree survey are not located within the borough boundary and therefore cannot be considered by this LPA.

T1 - Sycamore (rear garden of 63 overhanging shed of 65) - Crown reduce by no more than 2.5 metres on the side of 65 Richmond Road, to reduce overhang over garden and ensure balanced and appropriately shaped canopy edge following removal of T2 (if approved). T2 - (Rear Garden of 65 adjacent to shed) - Fir - Fell - concern regarding slenderness due to high H/D ratio, limited amenity and impact on crown form of more valuable adjacent sycamore tree. G3 - Yew x 5 (Rear garden of 65) prune to reduce height and width by up to 1 metre. T4 - Horse Chestnut (Front garden of 63 Richmond Road, overhanging boundary of 65) - Reduce overhang over 65 to from a naturalist canopy edge, by no more than 3 metres from the furthest distal tip of the leggy branch extending over 65.

06/00214/TPO (W11) - Lime (adjacent to boundary with Wood Road) - Fell due to presence of Kretzchmaria duesta fungi, and associate decay. Reason: reduction of structural strength and proximity to public highway. Lime x 5 (located in a line adjacent to side elevation of 6 Wood Road) - Reduce height by 4 metes and remove deadwood. Reason(s): Trees have reduced vitality and significant deadwood present in canopy.

06/00105/TPO (W11) - T1 - Swedish Whitebeam (next to garage of 21 Dippons Mill Close) - Crown reduce by up to 1 metres to reshape and balance. Crown lift to 2.5 metres. Reason: to provide appropriate clearance above garage and over garden. T2 - Ash (nearest 21 Dippons Mill Road) - Reduce height by up to 3 metres and reduce overhang over garden / house of 21 Dippons Mill Close by no more than 2 metres. T3 - Ash - Crown reduce branch overhanging road back to appropriate pruning point at the boundary between the lawned area and the pavement. Reduce by no more than 2 metres in height. Beech (Rear garden of 21 Dippons Mill Close) - Prune branches growing 'in front' of holly tree by 2.5 metres back to appropriate pruning points in accordance with BS 3998.

06/00045/TPO (T50) - Lime - Prune back smaller branches on eastern side of canopy, extending toward 21 Ash Hill, back to appropriate pruning points no more than 3 metres inboard of the common boundary between The Old House and 21 Ash Hill, but no further than the most recent pruning points. Prune small diameter branches on house side of canopy (circled in yellow on the photo that shows part of the rear elevation of The Old House), back to appropriate pruning points in line with the general canopy edge. Crown lift descending growth from the most recent pruning points around the lower skirt of the canopy back to, but not beyond, the previous pruning points.

06/00214/TPO (W18) - G1 - group of sycamores at top of steps from garden of 17 - Remove low sweeping branch (extending toward garden of 17), and reduce remaining canopy over gardens of 17 & 15 by up to 2 metres;Crown clean to remove squirrel damaged branches, reduce height of trees in G1 by up to 3 metres. T2 - Two apples and Box tree at base of bank - Reshape by up to 50% of canopy size. T1 - Conifer adjacent to boundary between 17 and 19 - prune subsided branches back into main canopy.
